The Pack Music Co-operative Launch

While the net worth of global music streaming CEOs can reach into the billions, the average unsigned Australian musician earns less than $8,000 a year from their music practice - and it's hitting our artists hard. Mental health issues in the music industry are significant, and one of the main causes cited is financial insecurity.

One million streams generates between $700 and $7000 on various platforms - barely enough to professionally record an album, and certainly not a living wage. Streaming has concurrently rendered physical product and digital downloads obsolete, decimating key recording revenue streams for musicians.

As the recent UK Parliamentary Inquiry into the Economics of Music Streaming shows - the ongoing impacts of global digital disruption on the music industry are devastating, particularly at a local level. With live music an uncertain living in a time of pandemic, the independent music industry needs a solution that has artists at its heart.

The Pack aims to address equity and economic issues by creating a localised, patron-powered music streaming co-operative, connecting local music creators with local businesses, local listeners and local governments, to create sustainable music economies and ecosystems.

Made by musicians, for musicians, and owned by its members, The Pack Music Co-operative will be more than a streaming service - it will be a community.

You can help us build this vital, sustainable ecosystem by joining The Pack Music Co-operative as a founding co-op member.

Join us for the launch livestream of this innovative approach to music industry sustainability. We guarantee, you'll walk away saying... 'It's so simple! Why hasn't somebody already done it?'

At this industry event you will:

  • Be entertained by MC Blake Williams and special guests from across the music industry.

  • Hear from a panel of Perth's hardest working musicians about being a musician in a time of COVID and the impacts of globalised music streaming systems on their practice.

  • Hear from Perth musicians about their experience with The Pack Music Co-operative and how they see it changing the music industry for original, independent musicians.

  • Learn more about The Pack, how it's addressing major industry issues, and how you can be involved.

PLEASE NOTE:

This event is free, but we do have an option to purchase a $10 Patron Ticket, which will enable us to put some money into our chosen social venture, and to put a little into The Pack's development fund. Your support is very much appreciated, but most definitely not required.

There is no need to purchase a ticket if you wish to access the livestream for free, however if you'd like to support The Pack Music Co-operative you can purchase a PATRON TICKET for just $5, or make a donation of your choice to The Pack via the Humanitix event.
